Welcome (Read this prior to first time posting)
« Thread Started on Aug 6, 2004, 6:06pm »

Let me be the first to welcome everyone here. I look forward to many people participating here.

Thanks to Mike for setting this up. Currently this is open to everyone. There may come a time where we have a separate forum for things that only pertain to us, but for now it can be used by anyone who wants to interact with the various people in the Music ministries of East Columbus United Methodist Church, or for comments, suggestions and such. If there is news etc. that apply only to choir members, I will try to make it obvious by the subject topic heading, as well as keeping it to the top of the list here. Other people are still free to read them, but I thought it might help people to filter out which posts they wish to read.
Some of the uses I envision for this forum are:

1. A place for news that pertains to the choir and the music ministry at East Columbus United Methodist Church
2. Fellowship among the choir members.
3. A place for people to talk with choir members and get to know them better.
4. A place to make comments, requests and suggestions etc.
5. A place for polls as far as types of music preferred and other opinions.

I'm sure there are other areas that will come up as well.
Right now things are pretty open here. If it is related at all to the music ministry here at East Columbus United Methodist Church (or its members) this is the place for it.

Keeping in mind that it is better to build someone up, rather than tear them down, I just ask that everyone be kind to one another. This would include not posting things here that are harmful to others or rumors. The saying that you attract more flies with honey than with vinegar is true. Instead of asking "what in the world possessed you guys to sing that contemporary song last Sunday?", it would be better to say, "I prefer the older songs and not the newer ones." :) I also ask that if you have an issue with a particular person, you talk to them instead of posting it here for all to see. (This is scriptural). Pretty much if we follow Christ's words and treat each other as we would like to be treated, and to love others more than ourselves, everything else will fall in place.

Constructive criticism is fine as long as it is done in a loving manner. We can't fix it if we don't know about it. Bear in mind though that some things just can't be fixed to please everyone as they often compete with one another. We sure try however, but in those instances we have to do what we feel is best for most.

I hope this doesn't offend anyone. I am sure most do not need these reminders, but there have been a couple of times things that have happened that make me feel that I should be clear from the beginning. I've been a part of several boards (mostly Christian). Some were moderated in an iron-fisted way, while others were practically free-for-alls. I have seen how even Christians can get on boards (especially while discussing volatile subjects of which they are passionate about). I want people here to be able to speak their minds and share opinions with limited rules and interference. We can be Christians and still disagree. Lets just not forget the Christian part. Thanks, Terry
